A quick update from southern Norway where we experience a splendid summer, with perfect weather conditions to enjoy any Outdoor activities.
Early season was busy for me, working a bit in Buses, getting my official degree as a Mountain bike instructor and first aid wilderness courses with NOLS .
Right now during the season I am still based in Geilo, and work at the Haugastøl Turistsenter: Hotel, restaurant and bike shop/rental.
Haugastøl is the starting point of the most popular and beautiful bike journey in Norway: The Rallarvegen which starts at 1000 meters above sea level on the high Norwegian mountains and ends up by the Nærøyfjord in Flåm after 85 km.
It is extremely scenic because the track takes you through so many types of landscapes : waterfalls, canyons, glacier, alpine mountains, round plateau, tundra and taiga, mountains streams and so much more. The altitude change along the way and the travel from east to west makes the nature evolve so much.
This season is very special because we have an extremely stable dry and warm weather in southern Norway with temperatures often close to 30 degrees Celsius. It is indeed perfect to enjoy outdoor activities but in a way the lack of precipitation endanger the nature, increase forests fires and make all farmers struggle heavily with their crops.
Geilo is a great place for me to do what I love ! There are so many places to explore and things to do in the area, it is just perfect for an outdoor freak like me !!
Guiding is also on the list for this summer. I am busy at work at Haugastøl but Im guiding some bike tours few times during the season in Flåm too.
We are trying also to guide some tours around Geilo area and Rallarvegen by offering some mountain biking introduction courses, Electric biking tours, and hiking excursions on the mountains.
The guiding and biking season will last until the end of september when New projects will be kicking in for the next winter ! I will keep you updated with more posts during the summer 🙂
